Nice collection, Doug! But, you're a brave Californian.
The only things I leave on short shelves are what I won't mind losing in the next earthquake. Most of my valuable breakables (Illy collector cups, art glass & ceramics, etc.) are boxed away or stuck to their shelves with museum wax. I use ACF, Nuova Point and Bodum for everyday service.

Gee, and I thought I was a brave Californian for switching from THESE unbreakable cups . . .
to these breakable ones!
Seriously, all my cups (both espresso and cappuccino) like these
were broken in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake . . . one demitasse cup and one cappuccino saucer was all that survived.
Oh, and I use those Bodum Pavina 12-ounce double-walled glass cups for lattes . . . .
(Photos obviously not to scale!)
Cheers,
Jason
P.S. Can you tell that, on the morning after Thanksgiving (and being awakened six times in the f***ing night! by a car alarm), I don't trust myself to work a camera???

here's my new every-day cup:
it's a villeroy and boch tipo. it holds 4 oz: a good size for macchiatos. the glazing and subtle texture are beautiful (they're hard to capture in a photo).
if you want to buy this one, go to amazon.com and search for "villeroy after tipo". currently, you can buy one cup/saucer set for $15, 4 for $45, or 6 for $69 (the pricing is a little complicated; note there is a 4-for-the-price-of-3 promotion).
here's my current "working set," including cups for cappucinos and lattes when guests request them.

Limited number of cups in the collection. The cup collection syndrome was short lived. Two illy sets, Artistas do Brasil and Minimalia sit in a drawer rarely used. Couple illy James Rosenquit, Coffee Flowers Ideas mugs.
The cups I use on a daily basis are in the ones on top of the PVL2. A illy Sandro Chia Facce italiane '93, Darryl Pottorf Bus Stops '99, couple illy bar cups and Vivace 10th.
Cups I wish I would have purchased at their release are Sandro chia's Facce Italiane VII tazzina, J.M. Subirachs Laietana and Michel Comte's People and places with no name. The cups are dating my espresso journey.

Bean meaning to get around to this, but its a good thing I waited. I found a few IPA Lavazza demitasses and one Cappa cup yesterday at the second hand. 5 SEK each, or just over 2 for a dollar! Its a very modest collection, mostly IPA and NP. Fullsack, I hope the roasting is going well. Have any specials on shipping to Sweden right now?
A current fav is this Ittala macchiato cup from Finland. If you haven't tried Ittala I can recommend it - they are really lovely design and finish.

Glad you like Iittala, I have some of their Arabia (a china company owned by Iittala) Koko cups, they are very nice indeed. I'll try to get some shots of them up here in the next day or so...
