The tenure committee at a major medical school told me I was a scientist long ago.

Some of the worst coffee I have ever had was made by scientists. But I would bet that the best coffee one could ever have also could be made by scientists. Not unlike the folk on this forum.

CG7 your avatar says a lot, and reminds me that Einstein was not always considered a scientist either. It is what he did that matters.

Another thing I would like to add, is that without scientists the world would be a lot less safe. These people know who they are, and if any read this, THANKS.

For someone that continually calls themselves a scientist, you sure have a whole lotta un-scientific methods of arriving at that conclusion! (I think that you and I are gonna get along real fine!)

Chris - I'm sure we'll get along fine. My motto will just have to be that curing cancer is easier then understanding all there is to know about espresso. Also, my mother taught me that being electrocuted once could be an accident. Twice by the same device and you're just dumb as a doorknob. Common sense trumps science.

The joke was ok, but it seemed to kind of miss the point of getting to the why, which is what I consider science.

For instance, a regular person will pull a shot with a whirly blade or 40 dollar grinder, and then either keep drinking or say it doesnt taste good and quit.

But a few people will look into why it taste the way it did and really learn the ins and outs of espresso making.

But only a fool would say, that taste terrible, I wonder if it taste terrible all the time, and proceed to use the exact same methods time and time again.
