Reality and perception transmogrifier (RAPT)?.. a home barista training device.. gives you an electric shock if you don't say "that is the best espresso I've ever made" immediately after every shot.

Very similar to this actually. And google patents found a few things that would ruin me. So... in that case I will just finish the device and post the plans for anyone who wants to DIY it. Oh well, back to the drawing board :P

Not necessarily. Far too many patents are granted that could not stand a challenge. There are too few examiners and even fewer are Einsteins in the patent office today.

See Patent Invalidation

OTOH, your patent might not stand a challenge if it's obvious.

I had a feeling.... This sort of thing (vibrations to settle powder or particulate matter) has been used in industrial applications for a long time. Dentistry uses it iirc. Better to find out now than to get acquainted with a bunch of lawyers from the wrong side of a table or the empty side of a wallet..

And, not the least, if you wish to obtain electrical certification in the USofA, a previous CSA certification can triple the costs and time of obtaining a UL® certification or bollix it up completely.

If this is something that wouldn't be relatively expensive, like say a 200+ dollar auto tamper.... one of the lamest devices for the price I've seen ever for home use, but hey, tampers are 100 bucks, I digress.

It'd be nice to have something like this, but for very little manual work to distribute, unless the difference is clearly shown in the cup, this may be less practical and more novelty. Some grinders don't *require* an even distribution for consistency in the cup, so you'd have to think about the target market. Other than curious people with money, it would mostly be someone who couldn't afford the likes of a Robur or really even a Vario, there are reports of it not needing a WDT shakedown, and would it be cheaper than buying a grinder that doesn't necessitate extra manual work after dosing? I'm interested to see/hear about results using this type of device, though.

And has been discussed once or twice on a.c.
