This past weekend here in Portland saw the 2nd Northwest Coffee Beer Invitational. Sixteen local brewers were asked to collaborate with local roasters to see what they could come up with. Most were good if fairly predictable. But one stood out: Migration Brewing did something they called Odilicious Strong Ale, which they made with a Costa Rican cascara from Sustainable Harvest in Portland, rather than traditional coffee. The cascara contributed raisin and dried fruit notes, but where I often find cascara rather unbalanced to drink by itself, this was delicious. Don't know whether it was a one-off for them, but if it isn't I highly recommend trying it.

Best,
David
