Below are a series of recorded lectures from this year's Nordic Barista Cup. I haven't watched all of them, but they look promising. Below is a sample of the videos on their channel:
Thank you, Dan, for finding and posting these. People pay a lot of money to hear these kinds of "advanced education" talks at the SCAA Symposium.
[Edit] James Hoffman gives a provocative critique of where espresso is today, and where he would like to see it go. Kyle Glanville shares his thoughts on creating high-end retail coffee bars. Stephen Vick talks candidly about the difficulty of storing green coffee in Chicago's climate and reports on his green bagging experiments.
Kyle Glanville's strategy is a great example of how really well thought out marketing can help a business in a crowded market differentiate itself, and actually set a benchmark for others to try to reach. Superb.
James Hoffman believes that we ain't seen nothing yet, as far as the quality, clarity and complexity coffee is concerned. It's maybe not something that is going to appear over night but it may come in time.
I wonder what the "old timers" on HB think about the past, present and future trajectory of coffee. Do we have a lot to look forward to?
Kyle Glanville said "Homeless people pee on couches" at an international event. Otherwise an amazing presentation, but what a shockingly small, and I judge hateful perspective.
I really liked Joseph Riviera's talk on chemistry... makes me want to know more!
James Hoffman, impeccably fair and balanced as usual. I love hearing that guy talk.
I'm halfway through Kyle G.'s presentation and I'm inspired. This is what I want to do, I want to open a social environment in search of great coffee. Kyle G. is officially one of my role models
