Knockbox trouble... really - Page 3

I've been sorely tempted to cut the bottom out of my knocker and flush-mount it into the counter top, right above the composting. At my girlfriends house I've built a grill over the garbage to keep the greyhounds out of it, and I've mounted my knockbox into that grill so the pucks go straight into the garbage (she refuses to have compost...).

My machine sits above the cabinet that holds our trash, so I don't even use a knockbox. I make the shot, knock the puck into the trash (simple hit against the plastic bin), and then wash the PF & basket at the sink, which is right beside the machine.

Feels normal to me. At times I see knockboxes and think "man, I need one of those," but then I realize they are like grill tongs with thermometers - cool, but not needed for my current setup.

Guilty as charged.

Every time someone comes along and posts, "Hey, this basket is great!", I, like a lemming, buy at least two or three. Remember A fool and his money (AKA, "Synesso Basket Group Buy")? Turns out that I already had a couple in my draw exactly like them. At the time I convinced myself it was necessary "research" on behalf of the espresso community... oh well, they are good baskets.

We compost them (along with the carrot tops, and lettuce bits), and use a liner in our compost can. We use a can with a lid for composting, and empty it every couple of days into the compost pile.

I use a Bumper. The moisture, mass of spent pucks and time will result in a cake of grinds with mold growth if not emptied on regular basis. Coffee grind dedicated compost pail (with lid) under the sink. Easy thing to do is empty the Bumper daily or every other day into the pail and empty the pail when full. Outside of compost used dry grinds works great on icy driveways for traction. On sunny days it can melts the ice.
