I think I like it because of Super Mario Bros!chrisbodnarphoto wrote:I love the mechanics and idea of this tamper, but I hate the shape. If anyone is familiar with Super Mario Bros it looks like a mushroom from those games (without the eyes, of course).
If he changes the shape to be flat I'm all-in!

I believe you have your choice of handles, I've ordered one with a traditionall tamper handle.

I have ordered one as well. Can't wait to try it. There are 2 color options for the traditional handle, red or black. There isn't anything on the website about the wood handle or round options yet, just a short message at the bottom stating they will be available in time.

I like the concept. I'd like one lower profile but maybe not the Super Mario Bros edition.

What are your impressions? Do you find it a better tamper than your "normal" ones?shawndo wrote:Just got mine in. Here is a photo to show scale next to a "normal"

So far so good. I've only used it a few times at this point.
I think the important features are auto-leveling and the sharp, tapered base. I have a pergtamp, so I was already sold on the tapered base thing. With the auto-leveling, all you have to think about is how hard to push down.
As far as the palm vs traditional handle goes, I can go either way. I like how the palm tamper looks alot but feel-wise it's a toss up.
Since it was different than what I was used to I figured my muscle memory might need recalibrating, so I pulled out the old postal scale. Turns out I have been slowly (over years) increasing my idea of what "proper tamp pressure" feels like and have been tamping WAY too hard lately. The change in handle did sort-of initiate a recalibration of my muscle memory, so I'll credit it for that!
The only part that feels weird is inconsequential. Due to the internal spring of this tamper, my usual no-pressure-after-tamp polishing isn't a part of the workflow anymore. Just something I got used to over time which doesn't work with a tamper with a spring in it.
I suppose I could press super-lightly to force it, but so far the tamper has been coming up clean every time without polishing. (The whole 3-times that I've used it so far!)

Mines scheduled to arrive Monday. It'll be interesting to compare to the Eazytamp 5 Star Pro currently using at home (using 22lb spring).

Am expecting mine on Tuesday and only mahlgut to compare to. Enjoy the mahlgut but not versatile when switching between different beans and dialing in dose and grind setting. However once dialed in - super easy. Eager to play with lev- but had to get the regular handle -- could not deal with Mario Bros look.
