I realize that's basically exactly what I asked for, but that shape worries me a bit. I think I would prefer a flat top. I want to be able to just push straight down with the heel of my hand (near my wrist), but I think with this rounded shape I would be inclined to sort of cup it and that seems like it would be awkward.mivanitsky wrote:Denis shared this with me. It will be produced as well. It will have sufficient excursion to tamp a properly dosed VST basket.

You are overthinking things, I think.
I tamp with standard tampers with my palm without trouble. This type of tamper does literally all of the work for you. So do the EzTamps. It would not be an issue, mechanically.
If you dislike the aesthetic, of course, I have no argument against that.
Having said that, perhaps Denis might be persuaded to make one as you like it... he is very accommodating on Monolith orders.

I also preordered one of these Kafatek LevTamps after trying a few adjustable depth tampers based on the buzz they've been receiving lately. I found I like the idea of them but experienced the exact negatives listed by others in this thread. First I disliked the lack of tactile feedback I used to receive from my normal tamper, and I switch coffees so much that re-calibrating the depth became so tedious I just put the thing to the lowest depth and started using it like a normal tamper. I hadn't heard of the Eazytamp or I may have tried them a while ago.

Not trying to sidebar our convo, but lots of info on the Eazytamp on this forum I've looked through. I think I will see how the LevTamps turn out and get a pretty wood one if I can swing it for my hopefully soon-to-exist espresso setup.dominico wrote:I hadn't heard of the Eazytamp or I may have tried them a while ago.

Well I don't read everything! Puck grooming / tamper articles are usually off my radar except for the high number of new grooming tool threads we seems to be seeing lately.Fluffeepuff wrote:Not trying to sidebar our convo, but lots of info on the Eazytamp on this forum I've looked through.

Hello FaustoFausto wrote:I have a wooden handled 5 Star Pro and there definitely is some metal on metal rubbing going on inside it. It's never bothered me and I would be very surprised if it ever caused an issue, but it's not as smooth as it could be. Not a functional issue...
The rubbing you describe is the calibrated spring rubbing against the stud (which the spring slides over). If it continues to be an issue, disassemble the tamper and turn the spring around. If this doesn't alleviate the problem, you can use a little round file and file the burr on the end of the spring smooth and you will find that the rubbing will go. It's just a little burr which existed on the end of the early springs. Not always, but sometimes this rubs. We have since changed the finish on the calibrated spring to alleviate this problem. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes. If this advice still doesn't assist with the problem, we will send you a new spring in the mail just get in touch with us.
Kind regards,
Eazytamp.

Hey, glad you found my comment.
Flipping the calibrated spring didn't make much of a difference. Filing the ends helped, although I realized that most of the noise seems to be coming from the larger spring and the leveler going up and down. Tried flipping that one - didn't help, it's not really sharp so I didn't file it. I'm pretty happy with it, but if you have any other ideas I'm all ears. Thanks!

I love the mechanics and idea of this tamper, but I hate the shape. If anyone is familiar with Super Mario Bros it looks like a mushroom from those games (without the eyes, of course).shawndo wrote:Latest from kafatek's instagram..

If he changes the shape to be flat I'm all-in!
