Clive·Coffee: Great coffee at home

I did everything wrong!

I had this pack of 11 weeks old preground (for mokapot) coffee laying around (it had been a present), and "inspired" by the "consistent godshot-thread" I thought: what the heck I'll give it a try, otherwise I'll just throw it away.
So I put the old preground coffee through my Major, and out came a powder-like grind. I updosed a 21 gram filter and after normal tamping put it in the machine. It cost my Butterfly at least a full minute to squeeze something like 40 ml through the puck, almost no crèma.
I didn't dare to drink it straight, so I made me a cappuccino. And you know what? I liked it! It really was a tasty cappo! No bitterness, no sourness, but sweet, roasted coffee!
The day after: the same, again a tasty cup. Even a third time it was good.... Sure, it was by no means a "godshot", and I could taste some staleness, but I wasn't prepared for this result, far better than I could have hoped for.
I am beginning to wonder: perhaps I don't know anything about coffee, and why am I making so much fuss about it? :D

Has anybody ever had such an experience?
