How Many Espressos Per Day?

Postby duke-one on Sun Jan 10, 2010 11:15 pm

I'm starting to get the impression that my two double shots every other day (I drink tea on off days) is real minimal, how many shots do you have a day? Once upon a time I downed many more a day but doubt I could survive that today.

Many days it's just one double in a day.
Other days, it's a lot more (today was 4 doubles, and then cupped 12 coffees).

But espresso and coffee in general can and I'd argue should be a culinary experience not a pharmaceutical experience and as such it's quality, not quantity that matters.

Two doubles in the morning - an occasional single at night.

weekdays - 1 triple basket double @ 7am, 1 double basket double @ 1pm
weekends - 3 triples basket doubles between 8 and 3.

emergency doses can happen between 4 to 7pm if circumstances dictate.

I try to keep it down around 4 doubles a day. It does get up as high as 6 or 7 sometimes, though. Needless to say, I am a pretty twitchy guy to be around.

Right now I'm doing espresso some weeknights and most weekends. This weekend was the first time that I've had my own espresso since before Christmas, though.

Most sessions are two or three doubles (12 - 16 g in a 45 mm basket) and sometimes a single.

Once I get my PID repackaged, I hope to be able to pull of espresso shots before work again (since upgrading from my pump toy).

See How many espressos do you prepare each day? for previous discussion. For me, it's about available time. Usually I'll drink 2-3 espressos. If I have lots of time, I'll prepare 4 "bracketed" shots (e.g., changing dose or temperature at each step), tasting two and drinking two.

Having missed the previous poll...

At least 3 doubles every morning, one before breakfast, 2 after.
1 double decaf after dinner.
On weekends 2 additional double after lunch and whenever required.

Sometime the doubles will be replaced by twice the quantity of singles. Whenever I really want to sit and enjoy the drink I will do singles. Also, whenever I am trying to taste-experiment or do hardware or process modification I will do singles.

Contrary to a lot of people on this site. I find that making singles is easier and more reapeatable for me. I do double to go faster in the morning...
