A little bird pointed me to the repackaged Barista iPhone application ("Make cafe-quality coffee on your home espresso machine!"). I still think iBarista or Coffeegeek would have been a better name.

On the other hand . . .

True to my word, I purchased the new and improved (and renamed) iPhone application and . . . guess what?

It reads "Home Barista" on the screen of MY iPhone!

I hope that was an accident that will be rapidly fixed. I just went and watched their Demo on their website and it at least has the right name there or more importantly doesn't have the wrong (ie trademark infringement) name.

Hopefully they just rushed it and made an honest mistake in their hurry to get back to market.(?)

Hi,

If you download the update that is now available (free), you should see that all pages say Barista. Unfortunately, updates to the description for the application are not synchronized by Apple with updates to the application itself - so the advertised name for the app changed slightly in advance of the new binary becoming available on the App Store. I apologise for the confusion.

If there are any references left to "Home Barista" in the latest version of the application* - and there certainly shouldn't be - then we would definitely like to know about it!

At the time of writing, Barista is up to version 1.2.0. You can identify this version by running the application and selecting the Info tab, which will show the version at the bottom of the screen. This particular version also has two cups on the application icon instead of one - it is Valentines Day tomorrow, after all.

On 12 February, at approx. 6:00 pm PST (13 Feb, 0200 GMT), I purchased
the "Barista" application for the iPhone, as I had "promised" to do if
the name was changed from "Home Barista". What was downloaded from
the Apple iTunes store was version 1.1 -- HOME Barista.

As of 9:00 am PST, February 13th (13 Feb, 1700 GMT), there is no "free
upgrade" to v.1.2. (Upgrades are generally downloaded automatically
when one "syncs" the iPhone.) I do not want to pay for the new
version, but there seems to be no way for me to download it.

To celebrate the amicable resolution of this issue, H-B and Airsource Ltd should have an iPhone raffle here, don't you think?

Hi Jason,
I usually go the Apps store on my phone and check the updates tab. Every App I've gotten so far allows me to install the updates for free straight from the phone. If an App is large, then I find it more convenient to download it using my computer and the iTunes interface. Is iTunes what you use to sync your iphone?

Hi Jason,

I've been offered the upgrade (yes, I purchased a copy of my own application - I know how lame that sounds) so you should have been offered it as well now. If you haven't, just go to the "App Store" icon on your iPhone and click on the "Updates" tab at the bottom. You should be offered an upgrade to 1.2 of Barista. Which is, unsurprisingly, called "Barista".

If you're still having grief there is a possibility that for some reason your phone has become "unsynced" from your computer (e.g. if someone else is using their iTunes account when you plug your phone in this sometimes happens). Make sure that you are signed in to your iTunes account next time you plug the iPhone in and it should work.

One further note (and this is *not* an attempt to flog more copies of Barista - honest): I don't think you can purchase the same application twice from the same iTunes account. Every time I have tried to do that it has offered me the application download for free and I don't see why it would be different in this case.

You legal types; always so darn suspicious ;-)

Regards,

Nick

Oh yes, and by the way - the announcement I was going to make - Barista is the new name and it is now available on the App Store! Sorry to those of you rooting for iBarista. ;-)

Yet again showing how naive I am, I seriously considered CoffeeGeek as a name change until someone took me aside and showed me the website...
