Going to SCAA 2011: What would you like hear more about?

Postby HB on Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:20 pm

Next week is the SCAA conference in Houston (April 28th - May 1st) and I plan to be there. No big plans at this point, basically trolling the showroom floor, watching the barista competition, and meeting with other espresso enthusiasts. If there are topics you'd like to hear more about during the conference, please let me know. If you'll be there, let us know!

Dan,

Very glad you are going. I would enjoy reading about anything that got your attention, new and creative. A daily recap would be nice. I am particularly interested in hearing about what Bill Crossland is working on. He has been very quiet in the past year.

Have a great trip.

I'll be there too (surprise, surprise!). If you're coming to town PLEASE feel free to contact me if you need any help with Houston. I'm probably going to be quite busy this weekend between volunteering and helping out with some parties... but I'd love to meet you if you're in town. I think Dan and me and some Houston coffee people will try do do a café/HBer home crawl at some point during the weekend, and I'd love to have any out of town HBers that can join us...

Agreed, the Crossland Machine is what I'd like to know about!
Enjoy yourself!

I'm interested in seeing information about the Baratza Vario-E and anything about the Compak K10 Fresh.

Mark's article SCAA Houston 2011 Preview - Great Gear has a good list. Here's the ones I'll start with:

  • Baratza (booth #1825) - built-in dose weighing Vario E. Bill Crossland is sharing booth.
  • Espro (booth #751) - improved version of the traditional presspot, the Espro press.
  • La Marzocco (booth #747) - always a must-see; VST of ExtractMojo fame is sharing booth.
  • Synesso (booth #1036) - updated Cyncra and Hydra.
  • Mahlkoenig (booth #1325) - ProM grinder.
I plan to stop by the barista competition and spend a lot of time sampling the roasters' coffees.

I will be there Friday, Saturday and most of the day Sunday. I'm not doing any classes or training this time - just cupping coffee, evaluating green coffee suppliers and checking out gear on the showroom floor. Hope to bump into any and all fellow HBers who are attending.
