God Shot - What's in a name?

Postby Ian_G on Sat Apr 09, 2011 7:24 am

OK so I've got too much time on my hands and I should get out more. Anyhoo being a bit forward by nature and aware that I'm new here, I wondered if anyone would consider changing the name "God Shot" for something a bit more evocative. I'm not religious as such, but while the name communicates the idea perfectly, I don't feel especially comfortable with it.

So I've been having a think and settled on the connotation of "outstanding" as conveying the correct meaning. Now this next bit, you may regard as being a tad pretentious. The Italian for outstanding as far as I can make out in this meaning would be "di prim'ordine". Abbreviating it makes it easier to communicate. So DPO means top drawer, first rate, outstanding. And in reference to espresso it would be EDPO.

So what does anyone else think? Or care?

I don't think we need yet another TLA or FLA. The top end of the SCAA rating scale is "extraordinary"; that works for me.

I think 'god shot' is firmly entrenched in the coffee vernacular and I suspect that aint going to change anytime soon!

If it offends some then they really need to get out more!

I like that rating scale. It's not used though in rating espresso machines, which is confusing.

Galumay I think you're probably right, but I'm not offended by it.

Confusion of the intranets! I only realised after I had posted that i used the same phrase in my post as you used in your initial post, and that it might be taken that i was referring to you personally!
