Absolutely - and a few shots daily won't deliver as much caffeine as one 16 oz brewed cup, unless you're pulling long high-volume shots. But caffeine withdrawal is common in serious coffee drinkers, and the headaches can be bad enough to be frightening. If you drink more than 3 or 4 shots most days, you may develop headaches if you abstain for a day or two.

I don't think one cup of brewed coffee will have more caffeine compared to several shots based upon measurements published online.

It has been ages since I had a caffeine withdrawal headache, as it has been ages since I couldnt get coffee.

However any sort of caffeinated drink will remove it, even, forgive my cussing, a can of overpriced sugar, woops, I mean Coke.

Do you drink other forms of coffee not listed?

(Also, asking a bunch of addicts if your overdoing it is something of a self fulfilling prophecy. Most likely the biggest issue is the oil present in the espresso as far as Healy concerns go, but I know all about caffeine withdrawal....) When I can afford good beans I exceed you....
Yes, i you per this on an iPhone

Caffeine in a brewed cup of coffee vs. a shot of espresso is an interesting question, and it has indeed been measured. Espresso has more caffeine by unit volume, but the serving sizes are so different that even in an old-school cup of coffee (6 ounces, or 180 ml), you are still getting more caffeine per cup than you would with a single 30 ml shot of espresso. Short answer, brewed coffee has more caffeine per typical serving than an espresso serving. Modern super-mega-venti-monster cup, way more.

The other variables at play are grind (finer allows easier caffeine diffusion into water), and steep time (longer equals more caffeine).

Four shots: gluttony, no. sanity, yes.

The only problem with getting a good quad is you need a 2-group machine, or else the temperature is all out-of-whack when you mix the two doubles.

The comparison was not between one cup of brewed and one shot, but one large cup of brewed and several shots. Clearly this depends on how was it was brewed but given the high end of dosing in our community it's fair to say that our shots could have around 200 mg of caffeine. For a brewed cup of 16oz that might be around 200 to 300 mg of caffeine. 2>1.

So is that why I have the shakes for a few hours after my shots?

Agreed, high dosed shots, x 4, most definitely more caffeine than 16 oz/480ml of brewed by 'routine' methods. Now that much Turkish would probably send you to the Emergency Room.

Problem? I saw it as an opportunity to take the next step along the standard upgrade path!
