EspressoFest 2006 - Thank You Dan - Page 2

Postby erics on Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:58 am

Dan -

Thank You! The arranging of an event such as EspressoFest is a daunting task and YOU succeeded in contributing far more than your fair share in making it what it was. It was, as others have said, so nice to be able to put faces to those names we read on the screen.

I also look forward to another EspressoFest and again throw out the suggestion that it be coupled with an Espresso Flea Market.

I would like to add my thanks to those being tossed around: particularly to Greg Scace who patiently tested machine after machine with his thermofilter to illustrate the impact of subtle temperature differences on the taste of shots. I doubt that anyone at the session will ever take the first shot out of an LM Linnea again without insisting on seeing a significant flush. Greg showed that the 200 degree setting delivered only 194 for the first shot, even though it is 199.5 and rock solid there-after. And as we shared the shot, we all could taste the underlying sour in what looked like a lovely shot. (BTW, Greg mentioned that this problem does not exist to the same degree with the new GB5 ... or the GS3, IIRC.) Kitt J

Dan,

Just a quick public "Thank You" for the great time. Even though this was my third SCAA convention, it was my first EspressoFest. I really enjoyed myself except for my having to leave a 3. I have made an appointment with Bill Crossland to give me a detailed view of the LaMarzocco GS3. My wife was so impressed she signed me up in the book for one. It looks I will be getting a GS3 for Christmas or soon there after.

Again, a big THANK YOU DAN for this years EspressoFest.

First of all, many thanks for the kind words. It was really a great event, better than I expected. Hard to believe it was only a 1-1/2 weeks ago (hey, I'm almost caught up with my real job!). Before putting this event into the history books, I would like to publicly thank those who helped make it happen.

Many thanks to volunteers:
  • Lino (Flux Capacitor, lots of help)
  • Sean (Monolith, lots of help)
  • Noll (logistics, setup)
  • Bob B (Elektra A3, hauling equipment, lots of help)
  • Abe / Jim / Bob Y (discussion leaders)
  • Bob R (lots of help)
  • Greg (thermofilters, Flukes)
  • Eric (E61 adapter, Silvia)
  • ... and many hands that helped repack the equipment and clean the facility!
And thanks to sponsors:

The SCAA / EspressoFest 2006 forums will be around for a few more weeks, then I'll move the threads into the general forum, Knockbox. If you have pictures to share, please post them in Andy's thread.
