Displaying espresso demitasse cups

Postby hardreign on Sun Nov 27, 2011 11:53 am

What got me thinking was looking through all the home setups and fun cups (e.g. Grumpy Cafe, EP's "Jolly Roger"). Thought it would be fun to collect and display cups. Like some people display their golf balls from courses they've played. Did a few searches but didn't come back with much. Anyone know of "off the shelf" (vs custom) options for displaying a collection of demitasse cups? Thanks!

Thanks Randy. I've seen those displays - and similar which seat about 5 cups in circular rack. I was thinking something that could display more like a dozen cups. I'm wondering if the golf ball cases would actually work...

It would be hard to beat Mark Prince's display of (a small part of) his Illy collection on these Ikea shelves. These shots were from his old apartment. I don't know what he's doing with them in his new home.

You could use a regular shelf unit, wood or shelves mounted on a wall, with the saucer hung behind it using these (size A fits most saucers):

The trouble with a golf ball shelf is that I think they have a round indentation carved into the shelf for the ball to sit. But any flat display shelf, of sufficient depth would work if you hang the saucer on the wall or backing. Alternatively, look for a teacup display shelf that has a plate rack at the back (small slot carved for the plate to sit in, or an applied rail that the plate sits behind, so it doesn't slide forward)

Thanks Marshall and Doug for feedback - all good input. I have limited space due to windows, doorways, etc. May have be some combination of all of the above.
