Congratulations to the 2009 Danish home barista champion Rune Larsen.

Rune was using Ethiopian Biloya roasted slowly to first sign of 2. pop (home roasted). His signature drink was a layered drink served in a 5cl shot glass. Acacia honey at the bottom, espresso in the middle and a topping foam prepared in a shaker consisting of ice, citrus, preserved ginger and white of eggs.

Rune was using a Dalla Corte Mini / Mazzer Mini setup and finished in only 9:06!

2. place: Jacob Bardino (VBM Domobar Super / Rancilio Rocky - 13:21).

3. place: Daniel Sommer (ECM Giotto Classic / Quikmill Apollo - 10:22).

To me as an amateur this were more exciting than the pro championships!

I case someone is interested in the Danish pro championships there's some videos of the four finalists competing for the title here (with presentations in English)

Amazing... did you check out the milk frothing at about 18 minutes in? Real game changer, but I kept waiting to see the hand coffee grinder in use (maybe I missed it).

[Disclosure: I have no financial interest in Mypressi or the Twist]

Something for the signature drink, not for coffee.

The winner BTW:

He fills the first basket around 9 min, and the second around 14:30(?) from the right half of the K30 twin. The third is filled around 22:30 from the left half, and then dumped without being extracted. Then around 23:23, he turns the handgrinder a coupla times and puts whatever results from the two or three turns into the bottom of the basket and refills the basket from the left half of the twin. Seemingly the handgrinder is used to grind some special ingredient that he puts in the basket. A violation in regular xBC competition, but it's a bit of 'everything goes' it seems in the HB comp.

Once again proving that, 'It's the grinder that makes espresso, the espresso machine simply makes water hot and pushes it through the puck.' ; >

Two espressos, two cappuccinos and two signature drinks in 15 minutes (18 minutes for competitors using single boiler machines or in this case Mypressi). Altered score charts.

Milk is partly prepped/heated during prep-time.
