Custom mypressi twist case

Postby mike b on Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:17 pm

got the twist last Christmas and love it, but didn't like the fact that I had so much extra stuff to haul around (tamper, coffee, cup, etc) so I decided to take matters into my own hand. The Pelican case is the only way to go. Contains the Twist, a tamper, 4 cartridges, frother, cup/saucer, spoon, vacu-vin container for coffee. Sure it might be seen as a bit extreme, but if the apocalypse comes, I'll be ready.

Extreme? Not until you add a water container and an immersion heater.. OH! And don't forget the four legs that screw into the bottom to turn the case into a coffee table. LED mood lighting when the case is opened would be a nice touch... A portable DVD player built into the inside lid.

It looks like there is place for a slimline hand grinder and an immersion heater. Also, a silicone foldibowl like here
http://www.orphanespresso.com/Silicone-...1387.html# for a water heating vessel could be fitted anywhere and is unbreakable.
Either way, I applaud this project. It looks smart and you will be the envy of everyone around you whenever you take it out.

Very nice work, I couldn't get the nice case so I found an import on special.

Since I no longer fly but travel by car I have this to go kit.
And here is my overstuffed but usable case. Not shown are the TightVac bean jars From O.E. which reside in the steamer.
In the kit is a Twist, an OE Funnel,
an extra double basket, a measuring spoon,
10 ea cartridges, two microfiber cloths,
a 110vac stinger/immersion heater. a Salton steamer,
a Kyocera grinder, two OE cups
And all the Twist stuff in the original fitted pack for simplicity

PS I get the milk for steaming from the motel.

What is this steamer? Is it something modified? I do not find anything about it.

The steamer was a product of Salton a few years back. They are no longer made. I found this one, new in box at a second hand store. I would suppose that a similar device could be made from a small clothes steamer by adding a wand.
It operates the same as the cheap steam powered espresso machines that they made, but it has no group.
I use it to heat the water in the "Twist" and also for steaming milk. I forgot to show the Digital Thermometer!

Nice cases. These are the first sensible travel options I've seen for espresso.

I picked up a small aluminum case from Harbor Freight this weekend to start on a Twist case.

I've got the foam on order, and it's going to be a tight fit, but I think it will work out fine. I probably won't travel with the digital scale at the bottom, the Kyocera grinder's internal fins give you a pretty good volumetric idea of the dose, and I need to fit in a demitasse. The case already comes with the thin foam padding installed.

I picked up some recycled foam from eBay to complete my case (at least the first version, I have extra foam if I want to make changes) and butchered the foam with scissors, a dissecting needle, a razor knife, and a dremel tool cut-off wheel (for scooping out the rounded parts). Below is the results. It's a tight fit, but I like it.
