A short post to congratulate Lem Butler from Counter Culture Coffee (one of my favorite roasters) on winning the Southeastern Regional Barista Competition. He has his blend up for sale on CCC's site so I will definitely give it a try. Also congrats to Ben Helfen, of Atlanta's Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge for taking second place and Danielle Glasky also from Octane for grabbing the third spot.
Indeed, this is Lem's second win at the SERBC! Below is an action shot of his 2005 winning performance:

Regrettably I didn't make the trek down to Clearwater to report on this year's competition. The good news is he's agreed to do an "encore performance" of his signature drink for locals at Counter Culture's espresso lab. Contact me if interested in attending.
I spent the day with Lem and the gang at CCC with the free training offered at Durham. Lem was the instructor that I worked with mostly today and I really enjoyed being right up under him. At one point I was on the left of an FB/80 and Lem was working the right side and I couldn't help but thinking how cool it was to be around such excellent people in the business.
What an experience....
Congrats to Lem! Hopefully I can go to MSP and cheer him to USBC championship!

I ordered a bag of Lem's Twin Cities Express Blend from Counter Culture Coffee last week and have blown through it pretty quickly. If you are looking for a sweet espresso then this is it. I find different blends of espresso are more appealing at different times of the day: I put this one in the "dessert" category! Sweet, very rich and thick with a darker berry finish. I don't think CCC was planning on having this blend up for too long so if you want to get it give it a try soon.
