Coffee or Buddhism

Postby ogatasan on Mon Sep 10, 2007 7:15 am

Apologies for this completely useless post. Under the background of a tight budget, I was about to order a Book on Buddhism when it crossed my mind i'd better spend the money on a book about coffee. I concluded it might not make any difference on the journey towards enlightenment, and just wanted to share this deep insight.
:D
Any thoughts?

I'd buy neither. I think there's more excellent info on coffee here and on other similar coffee forums than you could ever find in a book, and any good Buddhist center has a lending library (mine does, anyway). :-)

Cheers,

Get the book on coffee and invite your Buddhist friends over for coffee.

Ogatasan, it would be interesting to see just how many Buddist or Buddist inclined people also are interested enough in coffee to be a list member here. If you are looking at books, my favorite is "Stumbling Toward Enlightenment" by Geri Larkin.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your thoughts - it is pointless to say you are all absolutely right.

The internet is a great and unlimited resource and this website has its share. Still i sometimes favour a book, be it for the knowledge or charisma of its author, or because the reader might expect a finite conclusive statement.

I was hoping for some suggestions here on books about either Buddhism, Coffee or both - Thank you Ian, the reviews to that Gari Larkin are looking very promising!

A basic work about coffee dealing with its history, cultivation, cultural, economical and scientific aspects would be on top of my wishlist.

Some people here mention a Book by "Illy", and they might refer to "The Book of Coffee" by Francesco Illy and Riccardo Illy, but there is another title by Rinantonio Viani and Andrea Illy named "Espresso Coffee, Second Edition: The Science of Quality"

Is there any book with the potential to be called the Bible of Coffee?

That's like asking if there is any book that is considered the 'real' bible. Kinda depends on your religion...

William Ukers All about Coffee

A bit dated; but that's true for all bibles.

If your budget's so tight, perhaps you should head to the library, in any case.

Yeah, but which one is the one people are referring to when saying "The illy book"?

Espresso Coffee: The Science of Quality, is the title, about $80 US which is why I do not have a copy yet.
