Bids for Coffee Kids

Postby Boldjava on Sat Apr 24, 2010 10:44 pm

I'd like to tell you all about a little event a few of us home roasters are conducting in May:

Bids for Coffee Kids

Throughout the month of May 2010, we will conduct weekly auctions on a wide variety of items, most of which were donated by the specialty coffee industry. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm with which the coffee community has greeted our efforts. The auction includes assortments of top-quality green coffee, magazine subscriptions, grinders, brewers, roasters and much, much more, with all proceeds going directly to Coffee Kids. Our effort builds on the foundation of last year's "Kick It Up for Coffee Kids" auction that raised over $5,600.

For information about Coffee Kids, visit http://www.coffeekids.org

Items will be auctioned off every week, with each week's bids closing at 6pm Central Standard Time on each Saturday. In addition, we will have a few choice items open for bids all month. The folks over at the Green Coffee Buying Club have graciously agreed to host our auction. Any efforts that you could do to help get the word out (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Auction information at our host can be found at the Bids for Coffee Kids thread at http://greencoffeebuyingclub.com (registration required). We should have the master list of auction lots (over sixty and counting) posted early next week. I will post it here so you can determine which weeks are of interest to you.

Thanks to Dan for the support to get the word out. Feel free to send me an email (dave at sidewalkmystic dot com) or PM if you have any questions, or if you would like to help out in any way.

Dave,

Great cause, thanks for posting this. If you get a chance, post and update closer to the auction to remind me to go on over and look at the goods.

sounds really great!!

of course I need to ask how this would work for shipping to EU? Would we be responsible for that?

EDIT: just saw the part about free shipping within the 48states. Guess that means I need to do some calculating. . . . :)

Complete list in

We finished up the entire listing last evening. 77 items! Remember, all monies on items will go 100% to Coffee Kids. Shipping for all items is paid by the donor or Auction committee sponsor, only within the continental U.S. Should the winning bidder reside elsewhere, the Auction week host will ask the vendor if they are willing to ship internationally, with the winning bidder paying the difference between US shipping and international shipping.

If you're not bidding and would like to make a donation directly to Coffee Kids, click http://www.coffeekids.org

If you have any questions, PM me or email me via the links with my avatar to the right. Thanks to our home hosting site http://greencoffeebuyingclub.com. Should an item capture your attention, please go to http://greencoffeebuyingclub.com and register.

This week, we are clarifying international bids with our vendors. Some vendors will:

1) ship continental US only. No international bidding
or
2) ship international if int'l bidder is willing to pay the shipping costs above CONUS shipping rate,
or
3) ship internationally with no additional cost

When the auction goes live on http://greencoffeebuyingclub.com, each listing will have specific details on international shipping availability. If you have questions when we reach that week, PM the host (who will be clearly listed).

Our home roasters' auction to benefit Coffee Kids has just finished its first week. The last hour had a run of furious bidding, with one unlucky soul missing out of a lot by two seconds! Me! Got pants'ed by a budd while I was locking threads <grins>.

We were hoping for a good turnout for the first week, and we certainly got it! Our first week lots resulted in bids totaling $1809, which was well over the retail value of the item. It appears our bidders have latched on to the generous spirit shown by all of our donors.

Week Two lots are now open, including a BUNN STX Home Brewer, a Reg Barber Tamper, a Hario Buono V60 water kettle, 10 lbs. of the 7th Place Guatemala 2009 Cup of Excellence green coffee, and another 16 items. Please visit our hosts at the Green Coffee Buying Club to check out the lots. Bid early, Bid often!
