Bean Scene Article - Page 2

I should probably add that the article is apparently written by an Australian by the name of Gary Try, writing under the pen name of Gabriele Prova.

It was a strange article for BeanScene to publish, as they had published some good articles on London's cafe scene before.

Finally it might be worth noting that the editor of BeanScene resigned today, and I was told that he didn't want that particular article published.

I can just see that "portafreezo" guy doing a video and picking one bean at a time with tweezers from 13 different bags.

Actually, I was more taken by the statements about superautomatic coffee machines taking 50% of the coffee business in London. "Here, coffee, just like a soft drink, is expected, to be, supplied, at the same rate, and with equal convenience, to meet lifestyle demands." Commas added for emphasis... He goes on to state, "It is said by many, that coffee in London needs to settle and mature. This is not so. It actually is leading the way in embracing the natural future of coffee service, without the constraints of the 'cult of the barista' and traditional models, that are part of the past."

To think I've wasted all this time and money rebuilding a "cultish and traditional" Linea when I could have just picked up that new Jura Capresso I saw at Sur La Table. I too could have been on my way to the natural future of coffee service.

But in retrospect, I love being part of this little cult.

Interesting intelligence there. Am shaking my head even more now.

Appalling stuff.
