my californian friend also tells me of domestic efforts in addition to grindmaster: armando (large, costly double boiler fellas), cima (rebadged cimbali's) and hans steiner's super-autos. I have no further info but it is interesting to me that seemingly quite a few efforts have been undertaken in the past say 20 years.
cheers

High-end home espresso equipment is a niche market that doesn't benefit from large scale production cost reductions. Today's cost increases should come as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. The only thing that has changed from years past is the unfavorable currency exchange rate for US consumers. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

I agree (with one notable exception :D ). With the dollar continuing to fall and material and transport costs continuing to rise, I fear European hardware prices in the U.S. have nowhere to go but up!

Hey, isn't Seattle still in the US?
If we all bought Synesso Cyncras, does that mean that they would qualify as high-end home espresso, and that they would benefit from economy of scale, and compete, price-wise, with the Silvia? Someone call Mark and ask him, I smell a group buy...

Psyd,
Count me in...just as soon as I find that money tree and sneak it past the wife!
