Right now they are only listing four coffees green, none of which would work real well for espresso.

Ah, I was looking at their test site, which has a larger green selection.

I used to buy a lot of green coffee from Klatch, but none recently. This is because they haven't had any good and fresh SO's suitable for espresso in quite a few months. At one time they offered nearly all of their SO varietals that they sell roasted, in green form as well. Then, they started to reduce the number of SO varietals in green to the point where at present, as Jim says, the pantry is empty.

I hope they will resume selling a lot of different SOs in green form. At the moment, there don't appear to be a whole lot of suitable SOs out there for espresso use, from any vendor, at least not from any of the vendors I've ever bought from. I hope this changes soon, since my stash is going to be getting kinda grim in another few months.

They list 10 greens on their new site, which is still under test. It should go live, shortly. Meanwhile, it looks like participants in the beta test are able to order from it, now. BTW, love the new site. Really a huge improvement. I'm not sure what type of origins would do best as SO espresso, but I tend toward Sumatra as a favorite for other brew methods.

Green Brazil Yellow Bourbon: Loved for it's beautiful orange citrus flavors. Black currant and wine undertones with sweet citrus, chocolate and cherry notes. Very rich and smooth.

Green Colombian Organic: The sweetness of tangy honey-orange and pink grapefruit, with hints of cocoa. Tart, tangy acidity, creamy body and a lovely finish.

Green Sumatra Bodhi Leaf: Traditional syrupy body and rich cup but extremely clean Indonesian. Low acidity with flavors of creamy vanilla, garden greens and tropical fruits. One of our favorites.

Green Colombian Frutas de Popayan: Floral perfume like fragrance, balanced body and acidity with flavors of citrus and cherry. A wonderful representation of the best from Colombia.

Green Costa Rican Cerro Paldo: Intense floral aromas and rich, sweet flavor. Full-bodied with complex citrus and fruit notes covered in chocolate.

Green El Salvador Las Mercedes Pepinal 1: Multidimensional, a complete coffee from start to finish. Lively acidity, round body and a substantial and intense fruity flavor. Creamy with hints of cherry, plum, peach, honey and chocolate.

Green Panama Elida Estate: Flavors of jasmine and a combination of citrus such as tangerine, lemon, and pink grapefruit. This coffee has very good body, sweet acidity and great balance.

Green Panama Carmen Estate 1750 Reserve: Hints of caramel, honey, fruit, toasted grains and chocolate with bright tangy acidity. A well balanced cup, sweet, clean aftertaste, and slight hints of chocolate.

Green Ethiopian Amaro Gayo: Typical of Ethiopian naturals, this organic coffee possesses chocolate and berry tastes that practically melt in your mouth. Smooth, buttery and creamy.

Green Brazil Ipanema Dulce: A wonderful natural bourbon exhibiting tastes of orange blossoms, honey, citrus, dried cherry and chocolate.

Of this list, and not having tried any of these coffees personally, I'd guess that the two which have the most potential for use as single origins would be the Yellow Bourbon and the Ethiopian.

The Amaro Gayo, Yellow Bourbon, and Sumatra, at about 30%, 40%, 30%, would be close to their USBC and WBC blends from a few years back.

The Ipanema is used by many roasters in their espresso blends. It is smokier tasting than the the Yellow Bourbon.

These wet processed Sumatras work as an SO when roasted medium-dark, rolling second crack, so that it oils up in four to five days. On their own, at lighter roasts, they tend to have a disconcerting jasmine flavored acidity that is a bit too loud for espresso. Can work well in a blend, though.

The Carmen 1750 was a spectacular brewing coffee two years back, going neck on neck with the famed Esmeralda at the cupping tables. I look forward to trying it.

Thanks.

I also got some feedback from Mike Perry.

Klatch offers the Brazil Ipenema Dulce (also a Bourbon) as an SO (I missed that one before), but he also recommended the Ethiopian Amaro Gayo, the Cost Rican (both the Cerro Paldo and a "La Minita," which I can't find), and the El Salvador Las Mercedes.

I ordered some of the Brazil and El Salvador, to start. I'll see where this takes me.

Thanks, again.

I was enjoying their panama elida natural for a while as an SO espresso. I bought 10 pounds of Wondo Bonko when they had that for sale as a green. Unfortunately, it seems to have aged out (even as a green) and is nowhere near as good as it was a couple of months ago.
