Troubleshooting Toper TKMS 2.5 - will not ignite

Postby derbycityespresso on Mon Oct 03, 2011 12:16 pm

Hi there I have been roasting for the last year on a Toper TKMS 2.5
Last night I tried to get her up and running but the pilot light kept going out before the primary gas jets would ignite. I tried to light the sucker some 20 times each time with the same result, the pilot would ignite but then would blow back out activating the gas safety which prevented the main jets from drawing gas and igniting. Any ideas? Anyone know of a Toper distributor in the USA?

Thanks and all the best,
Matthew Landan

I would guess either the thermocouple that would be in the Pilot flame is out of position or has gone bad not sending a reading to the controller. In moving my roaster one time the hold down screw for the bracket to the thermocouple was not tight enough and it shifted, not allowing it to heat up enough. (on my Ambex, I would assume the Toper is similar). Should be able to take an ohm reading on the thermocouple to see if it is in range or open circuit.
