Roastmaster iPhone app

Anybody else been using this? I just picked it up last week and did a couple of roasts this weekend using it for record keeping and tracking. I like that you can edit curves and profiles for your roaster and get as granular as you want with it, but can also run it in fairly simple mode. Seems robust so far. Also a good database for bean stash and cupping notes. My opinion, albeit with limited use so far, is that it's well worth the ten buck cost.

That is great...I'm buying as soon as they get the iPad version.

Also, they have a wish list...my wish is to have a thermocouple addon, incorporate the software with something like the iGrill to record your roast for you....

Of course it runs fine on the iPad, though not as crisp.
My one main complaint on the iPad was that the primary thing I wanted a better view of was the graph detail.

That's been resolved with the current version. On iphone and iPad you can double tap the graph and get a full screen zoomable view. It goes landscape on the iPad. All that to say, I wouldn't hold off just for ipad native. It's already pretty good, and the developer is already tweaking for iPad. It seems even in the iPad layout the presentation will be much the same content

An iGrill approach seems interesting. In practice though roastmaster seems about limiting the required input. It works fairly well. See http://www.rainfroginc.com/Roasts.html

I think I might be more inclined to spend my efforts adapting a PID controller to my iroast II, and actually having in-process control.

Any feedback?

Is it useful? It is easy to use? Is it worth its cost ($9.99)?

I bought it and am testing it. It is clearly a serious piece of software -- not a toy. The user interface is well done. It's really well thought out. After I use it for a month or so, I'll write up a review.

As to whether it's worth $9.99, that's kind of a strange question. The real cost of any low cost software is your time in learning it. If it is junk, it's not worth your time even for free. If it is very good, it is probably worth a lot more than $9.99, that is if you use it.

For me, I'm a terrible note taker, can't read my own writing and am not very organized. So, if I find I can get used to it and it keeps all my roast records handy for me, it will be a very good value.

One thing for sure, the developer is very serious and also very well informed about the topic.
