Roasting the MVP Espresso 2009 by Paradise Roasters

Postby farmroast on Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:10 pm

I bought some roasted and some green. I'm waiting for the roasted to degas as it's a light roast and 7-10 days was suggested by Paradise. Then I will try to figure out how I want to roast some. Thought I'd start this thread to discuss approaches and results with members doing the same.

I just tonight roasted two one-pound batches of the green MVP. About 13:15 minute roast, C1@9min, discharge a few degrees before C2. A light FC roast. I used two slightly different profiles, with the first having a slower drying phase, with a longer hold before opening up partial airflow than the second. I also slow the roast a bit just before C1. Finish temp is irrelevant, as my roaster probe always reads low.

Half an hour after the roast, I ate one of the small light beans and got strong berries in the bean - before I could smell it! Now this stuff already smells great (after a few hours rest). I look forward to tasting this blend as it develops.

If this tastes as good as it looks and smells already, I think that we have a winner here. Props to Paradise Roasters and Sweaner!

I'm soon to roast some of this which has been stuck in a vacuum bag since last January. Anyone have any further observations from experience with it?

With my newly assembled Frankenroaster I enjoyed roasting MVP 2009. I could not wait to cup it so tried some. Nice fruit in the cup. I look forward to 5-7 days postrest and trying the espresso. Here is the roast profile. At 216 C (420F) (end), the 2nd crack had just started. I am still working on sensing first crack. T1 is the ET and T2 is the BT.
