Rewiring a Probat Electric sample roaster?

Postby scoobs on Wed Oct 12, 2011 2:27 am

Hi Guys

Has anyone had any experience on getting a Probat electric sample roasters element rewired? One of my friends has a pretty old one with a lot of broken wires in its heater element. Getting a new one from Probat is pretty expensive so have been thinking of trying to get it done locally ourselves.

Any suggestions?

When I rewired my lever machine, I bought some lengths of wire from an appliance repair shop - they have wire rated for high temperatures for ovens, furnaces, water heaters, etc. They also have special ring/spade lugs that are also for high temps.

If its the element that's broken, you'll probably need to replace the nichrome element. You can buy the wire here:

But you'll have to wind the coils by hand. These guys will sell you pre-coiled wire:

And the terminals to connect to the ends:

If it's something else you need, ask.
