Program my I-Roast to that of a Hearthware Gourmet

Postby delucs on Fri Sep 05, 2008 5:05 pm

Perhaps it's my roasting skills (lack of) on the I-Roast but I can't seem to generate the same roasts as I did on my retired gourmet. I simply want to begin the cooling process on the I-Roast 10 seconds into second crack, however, when I hit the cool button, the beans seem to continue roasting somewhat further than desired. I have tried to start the cooling process just as second crack begins, however, the roast never seems to duplicate what I had on the gourmet.

Next thought is to imitate the roast profile of the gourmet into the I-Roast. Can someone kindly suggest the stage1-2-3 temps and times to do this?

Thanks
Steve

iirc, the Gourmet was basically full throttle from beginning to end with no programmed profile at all. It was one of the things I learned to dislike about it because it created a too-fast roast profile. Try max temp for the segments on the iRoar2 and see what you get.

When I tried the iRoar after the Hearthware Precision, one of the main issues was bean stagnation. The Precision continued to circulate the beans when the fan was slow. The iRoar barely flipped the odd bean when the fan was slow.

After 2 iRoars atrying, I went aHotTopping.

Have not had a chance to try max temp for the duration of the roast, however, I would imagine it would roast much too quickly and perhaps give the same result. I will try it this weekend.

Although it's been a few years, if I recall correctly, I was able to obtain a colour between city to full-city just as second crack started. Perhaps it's the beans?
