Pics of your Home Roasting Setup

Postby Endo on Thu Oct 16, 2008 9:40 pm

I just bought a Behmor 1600 and it got me thinking.......there is a nice topic for pics on home espresso machine setups but nothing I could find on home roaster setups. I've read a lot about different methods but I'd like to see some more photos. Anyone wanna share?

Wow... These roasting setups look pretty serious (kinda "mad scientist" like).

Is that BBQ in your garage? I hope you have some good ventilation.

Well yes but it was only there for the photo. I have that important disclaimer on the site, but thanks for the reminder.

Here's my setup.
Dual heating elements, upper: convection w/variac, lower: conduction adjustable. Dual range 0-5700 rpm convection fan. Variable speed bean bats. Chaff collection canister. ET and BT printing thermocouples. Dump and cooling drawer.

This is my analog Hottop that I bought used not too long ago, and I just finished building a custom base for it with the dual temp readouts (environment/bean mass).

Sorry the lighting is a bit dim, but the flash made it look worse so this is just an idea of what it looks like. The temp display panel is slightly angled compared to the main sides of the base for easier viewing.

Thanks for the comment - I am really happy with how it came out because even though I can't change the profile with this model as it is, I still like to have an idea of the temps duriing the process, and the displays and thermocouples will be there if I decide to upgrade to the B panel which I am still thinking about. The temps are displayed on Omron E5GN temp controllers. Here is a better picture of them:

Here's one of my set up in action, taken this morning.
A converted bread maker with a heat gun and drill press. This setup has been christened with the name "Corretto" after its creator on "Coffee Snobs".Image
