Mixing Kenya with Monsooned?

Postby Ozark_61 on Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:31 pm

After taking Jim's advice on cupping - I found that I liked the fruitiness of my Kenya AA and I like the funky earthy flavor of monsooned coffee - but does anyone know if they would go well together? Like peanut butter and chocolate??

You should try it -- it's a very loose take on Mocha Java -- no guarantees of course, but one of the big attractions of home roasting is taking an occasional flier.

OK - well, with 6 different beans to choose from, I'm having fun coming up with different blends every day. I went kinda crazy and did a:

    6gm Brazil DP
    4 Monsooned Malabar
    4 Kenya AA
    4 Guatemala Injerto

Crazy good and funky - but with such a long aftertaste, it might be a little intense for everyday. definitely fun to break up the routine.

I enjoy 40% Malabar, 40% Sumatra, 20% Ethiopian for milk based drinks. Cuts through a latte nicely... its fun palying around, but sometimes I get a bit lost as to what I'm drinking - I should keep better notes!

Some Kenyans have a vegetable/leafy/earthy character on their own in a nice balance. That won't give you the more extreme qualities of an MM, but it can be delicious.

I've always enjoyed MM in an espresso blend, but not so much for anything else. One of my favorite blends is a Yemeni, Sulawesi and MM.
