Idido Misty Valley is back?

Postby farmroast on Fri May 06, 2011 4:50 pm

I just got an email from Deans Beans (Dean Cycon) that they have a new greens arrival of Idido Misty Valley. Haven't heard of it being offered since the whole ECX thing. I ordered some to see what the current version is like. IMV I liked the first lot of '06 but found the lots after that a little less impressive. My guess is Dean brought this in himself.

Thanks Ed, will eagerly wait for your report.

Ohhh, Idido, how much I will miss you. Still have one (tiny) greens bag in the freezer, my last one. My dance with IMV over the (frozen) years is one strong reason why I feel not home roasting is not an option for most of us.

IMV makes my (and my wife's) day every time we roast, grind, or brew it. A bean we dearly adore. Hope the batch you're getting matches (or even gets close to!) the older batches.

And, yes, it's very kind of you to give us the heads up on this one, thank you.

I went to Deans Beans today and talked with the head roaster and sampled a cup. It didn't have the clean blueberry the first '06 lot had. The coffee had been in a airpot too long to judge it for florals etc. but showed the typical citrus.

Ed,

What other coffees have you tried that have the "blueberry" flavor? Primarily DP Africans? I am fascinated by the idea but haven't found one (or looked very hard) with the blueberry bomb profile. I think I am ready to find one and was hoping the Idido would fit that bill. Any other suggestions?

The last one I've had was the '08 Koratie DP a Sidamo with blueberry/peach/pineapple. I'm down to my last 2 lbs. Barrington Coffee vac. packed some '08 Koratie and they are offering it right now roasted for espresso. I'm sure I've missed some since but they are hard to find and are now pricey(still worth it). The anticipated Nekisse arrival I believe was more strawberry like in the past lot.

2nd the Sidamo from Barrington Gold, it's the first coffee I've tried in the last couple years to have a really standout blueberry flavor. Actually, as far as I know the last time I got that kind of blueberry flavor was another Sidamo back in 2008.
