How do I power the Poppery 1's fan separately?

Postby noah on Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:11 pm

Perhaps it is a silly question, but my Poppery II roaster is now dead (the kids spilled applesauce into it), so I got a P1 to replace it. With the P2, I had the whole unit hooked up to a variac, but this time around, I would like to have the fan going at full power the whole time. Is this as simple as getting a power cord and splicing the fan wires to it?

Thanks,
Noah

Hello Noah.

It is almost as simple as you say. Once you open the P1 you will see that splitting the fan and the heater is very easy. Make sure that you have the right wires and split the circuits in 2. I have just added a two wire cord for the fan and connected it to a light dimmer. The element cord goes into the Variac.

There is a lot of good info here:

I drilled a hole in the plastic, and ran a 2nd power cord in for the fan.

The homeroaster link looks like a good guide for what to actually do.

When I seperated the fan power in mine, I also removed the thermostat. I would recommend doing something about the thermostat, the hr link also addresses this.
