i recently bought a hottop roaster and have been reading many of the excellent threads on this site (and others) about home roasting in general and using the hottop in particular. the idea of measuring the bean mass temperature seems very useful as an indicator and so it makes sense that folks have added bean temp probes to their hottop.
but i'm wondering if anyone has considered whether there's a way to interface a bean temp probe to the hottop's control panel display. in other words, is it possible to swap out the hottop's built-in sensor for one that reflects bean mass temp instead? it's not critical to have the bean mass temperature integrated with the control panel, of course, but it certainly seems more useful than the built-in sensor. for example, instead of having a preset "eject" trigger based on some temperature of the hottop sensor, i can imagine setting it to correspond to a particular bean mass temperature. and i don't know exactly how the stored profiles work in the hottop (i.e., whether they're based on time or temperature) but i can similarly imagine that it would be useful to have the fan triggered for some period of time during the drying phase, based on the bean temp.
i know extremely little about temperature sensors...really not even enough to be dangerous.
thanks.
