Packaging question.
Jim, Would you prefer the espresso sample to be in one bag and the brewing in more than one bag to send off? If so give the weights you would prefer in the bags.

I got mine delivered already :)

How many of you did last minute adjustments? jeje

Did you really cup the coffee or you just gave your best shot?

I think next year it will be more interesting as people will pay more attention to learning (like myself). This was my first time ever doing a blend  I roasted the coffee and then I mixed it based on what I thought it was best (trying shots). Anyway, It made me think about what I was doing and the possibilities.

Cheers

As I messed up my test batches. I roasted my harder beans Sunday night and the softer ones last night. I've been cupping them today and will ship them out priority in the AM. Been cupping the individual batches today. I will probably be deciding my final blends on the work table at the post office

I hear you.

I also had to imagine how the beans will be by the time they are used. Hopefully the flavor will get even deeper (now it is kind of aromatic-alcoholic-nasal). Since I had lot extra I am trying more shots now jeje. I tried to do the standard old school espresso blend that is advertised in the internet but I ended up changing the percentages by a lot. They are basically reversed. But it all depends on your roast. I don't think there is a standard so to speak. I am glad I made up my mind jeje

I see you guys have set high goals! I'm just hoping my coffee doesn't cause the tasters to give up the hobby

Yep, that's my concern also.

My entry is in the hands of the very capable USPS, who assures me that the package should arrive on Thursday.

I hope mine goes at least through the defect test. If it passes I'll be very happy as I am fairly new to home roasting. If it doesn't pass then I'll learn from the experience.

Did you guys did anything out of the ordinary for the competition, or you used a blend based on tested experience?

Same here. I just shipped a brewing sample I roasted on Saturday and am hoping it does OK. My wife and I were too busy enjoying the coffees brewed to risk wasting them in my first-ever attempt at espresso blends. Maybe next time.

I usually roast/drink SO espresso, or occasionally a green blend. But I submitted a post-roast blend after some trial and adjustment with both the roast levels and the blend fractions.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll repack the brew roasts in small valve bags when I reship them to Tom and Bob. I haven't coordinated with them on this yet, but they may prefer to get the samples already blinded (i.e. just with numbers)
