Today I roasted 380g in Behmor and let the 1st crack finish its thing. Beautiful orange aroma so I ordered another #20. Thanks for the tip.

Took it to a first crack plus 1:40 and dropped. Notes are a bit different but then so is this coffee. Cupped on 4 days rest.

Ethiopian Yirge Buna

Fragrance/Aroma: Filled the kitchen with a full, sweet, savory smell (note of a black pepper as well) when I brewed it. 73g/40oz on a Yama vacpot.

Coffee needs to cool before it is even approachable. Like a 3 year old waking up. Best left to wake up on their own.

As I told a friend at church yesterday, this is hands down, the most complex Yirge I have ever had. This is a coffee SweetMarias would buy. A large importer would never touch it as it would not be a popular cup. It is an insider's cup. If a broker bought it, they would know exactly which of their customers to touch base with to move it.

Flavors noted: Take a drop of molasses. Add a skosh of peach nectar. Keep it corralled; grab a hammer. Squarely hit the liquid and watch it go into a 1,000 droplets. That's this coffee.

It's that complex. Peach (or some stone fruit). A sweetness that's hard to describe/categorize. Maybe a thick honey sweet. Same with the acidity. Citric. Some fleeting lime in there. I get that tell-tale Yirge tea-like characteristic. Some cranberry Jolly Rancher hard flavored candy way on the side of the tongue.

Medium heavy body. Mouthfeel invites a chew. Pleasant. Clean.

Finish and aftertaste are cup consistent. The aftertaste lingers and lingers with a very pleasant taste.

Espresso, I wouldn't go after shots too quickly. I might let them cool a bit.

Finally, if it reaches room temp, it tastes like winter squash. As I said, a unique cup. Not for the faint of heart.

Roastmasters has new crop June arrival Ethiopia Yirg. Konga Natural (a personal favorite). When they say flavor has significant blueberry notes I'm on it like flies...well, you know. I thought about keeping it on the hush hush, but that would be futile. :D .

this has been hands down the best yirgacheffee I've ever had. Much spicier and complex, mixed with fruit, but I've had other yirgs that were almost tropical, this one was different. Just roasted two batches of this last night in M3. I got curry, white pepper and lemon from my tasting, but a kind of ambiguous complexity makes me not that confident with my adjectives.

Well stated. Most complex, different Yirge I have ever had.

I picked up a Java along with this Yirg, may make an interesting Mocha-Java blend. I actually enjoyed the cup completely cold. Sip it from fresh from the vac pot to cold, the flavor keeps changing.

+1

But if not, I was quite satisfied with my stash of greens. 'Greens alert' thread is a good way to keep the cold storage full.

Blame your HB brethren if you get a "Sorry Charlie."
Sometimes Tom, will get another lot, usually pretty close to the original. Hope you still get your order though.
