I was going to try to order Elida natural this year, but bodhi said he cupped it, and wasn't impressed at all. I contacted Elida direct, and they said it was scoring about an 87. I ended up grabbing something else.

I have never had a "meh" coffee from Klatch. I trust them to obtain the best lotspoison wrote:I was going to try to order Elida natural this year, but bodhi said he cupped it, and wasn't impressed at all. I contacted Elida direct, and they said it was scoring about an 87.

Sure. I would have cupped it if there was availability, but I wouldn't have had the opportunity, so I went with Steve at bodhi. I ended up buying Santa Theresa natural.
And sure, maybe Steve just doesn't love the crazy ass fruit bomb naturals. Last year's was insane: bubble gum, fruit punch, fruity pebbles, overwhelming and intense. The most in your face, in that vein, I've ever had.
I hope to read some reviews here!

I got 5 lbs of the Elida Natural from Klatch but have not had a chance to roast it yet. Once I do I'll start a thread. Last year's crop was spectacular, so I'm crossing my fingers that this year's isn't too far off that mark.

Just a quick update: I tasted my first batch of the 2016 Panama Elida Natural I bought from Klatch and it is great. Loads of strawberry & port wine flavor, in a sweet and balanced cup. This year there is an interesting roasted peanut undertone as well, which I found pleasant. I don't know what is up with the other lots but I'd definitely recommend getting some from Klatch if you still can.

Mark, just curious as to what degree did you roast...or drop temp, etc...

I'm a sucker for a good natural. It seems that's all I drink lately. Just picked up 10#. Thanks for the tip.

Roast phases were 3:10/3:25/1:50 for a total time of 8:25. First cracks began at 379F and I dropped at 394F, shortly after the last snaps had subsided.IMAWriter wrote:Mark, just curious as to what degree did you roast...or drop temp, etc...
It's in the same league. There are some subtle differences but the basic flavor profile is very similar, so if you liked last year's crop this one is worth buying as well.poison wrote:How does it compare to last year?

You need to spend less time teaching law and more time roasting/posting. Always appreciate your input.[creative nickname] wrote:... There are some subtle differences but the basic flavor profile is very similar, so if you liked last year's crop this one is worth buying as well.
