Green coffees in Spain?

Postby cas99 on Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:18 am

I'm in Spain for several months.
Does anyone know of a source in Spain for green beans?
I'd really appreciate it.

The roasted beans are pretty bad.
Thanks.

It hasn't been part of Spain for a bit, but Ongebrand in Holland might still be the closest well established greens vendor for home roasters.

Thanks for both sources. http://www.ongebrand.nl/ will ship 30 kilos for 36Euro, a good deal if you need 30 kilos. Sadly, I don't 'cause they sell good beans.

http://www.rohkaffeebohnen.de/ in Berlin looks promising. I am awaiting a reply from Claus Fricke regarding shipping costs.

Both companies responded promptly. As opposed to the company here in Asturias, who won't sell 'cause he is apparently afraid I will compete with his business using my Severin air popper! It's a strange world.

I have just purchaised a lot of coffee from Claus:

So far I have tried:

Makwa AA Estate : after 4 days it develops exellent lemon zest, not really an espresso coffee

Fazenda Lagoa: I have made some error while roasting, but looks like good espresso base
Fazenda Sao Silvestre: another good espresso base

Mysore: it takes at least 5 days of rest, but sits very nice behind Brasil beans (Sao Silvestre for example). It swings espresso based toward Illy.

Finca San Francisco Tecuamburro: a lot of vannilla, great for drip and also in espresso mix (for example Mysore+Sao Silvestre+Tecamburo)
Finca El Platanillo Maragogype: nice smell, I am still waiting

Cafetalera HerbazĂș : very nice smell, I am stil waiting

From last year:

Yemen Mattari (expensive, but worth every penny to me). It makes espresso mix so much better.

NICARAGUA - Microlot N° 659 was a complete surprise. Exellent smell. It actually works as SO espresso too.

Haiti Bleu Pine - unfortunatly sold out, but really good, also for espresso

Claus at http://www.rohkaffeebohnen.de/ provides excellent service. The shipping costs from Berlin to northern Spain was up to 18 kilos of coffee for 13.50 Euros. Well worth it. I bought:

Tanzania Kilimanjro AA;
Brasilien National Winner Lot COE 2009;
Brasilien Daterra Bourbon Collection;
Indien Mysore Nuggets;
Kenya Makwa AA Estate;
Ethiopia Harrar natural.

I'll do a blend with 60% Brasilien, 15% Indien; 15% Kenya or Tanzania.
And do some straight, unblended as well.

Thanks for the good connection.

Makwa is really great on its own (as a drip coffee), but it may take 4 days to develop lemon zest.

In my opinion Mysore needs at least a week of resting, before its ready.

I haven't tried MAKWA. I agree with you about MYSORE: it has rested 5 days, but still isn't ready judging from today's first grind and cup.
