Not sure if anybody here has ever tried pan roasting coffee, but I thought I would just for fun.

Bought the Gene Cafe Pan Roaster for $30 and 5 lbs of Peruvian coffee and made detailed notes on each of the following, adjusting the different variables until we dialed in this roasting method to produce an even Full City Roast:

- Weighted the coffee before and after the roast
- Adjusted the flame height for different roasts
- Adjusted the time of the roast
- Adjusted the height off the flame
- Adjusted the amount of movement of the pan during the roast

After 7 tries we found success or what I would guess is the best this method of roasting can produce.

Has anyone else found success with pan roasting coffee?

Wow, that's amazing. I've tried pan roasting before and I only got tipped beans -- still drinkable though. How's your peruvian?

$30 for what seems to be a high-tech, equal-heating pan, marketed by branded pans for much higher? Can you explain what's behind the pan tech? People can bring this to origin.

That looks really evenly roasted, good job. I do something similar with an Androck popcorn popper over campfires when camping, but usually roast around half a pound and if I don't shake the heck out it the roast can be a bit uneven.
