Ethiopian Gedeo Worka DP from Klatch

Postby EricBNC on Sun Aug 14, 2011 8:11 pm

This one is a bargain in my book - 10# shipped for under $60 from Klatch during one of their free shipping promos recently.

I am still getting used to my new to me Behmor so the poppers still get a work out too. I found a West Bend 1500 watt Poppery Popcorn Popper roaster that was lightly used but still in the box. It is a very fast roaster - I might have to re-think my 85g rule.

It's a great bean Eric. It's definitely one you want to keep light. Milk Chocolate takes over very quickly if you're not careful, however, it can be all berries if you nail it. IMHO, it's worth trying a bag roasted to see what this bean can really produce. Don't blame me if Klatch's roast spoils you though :P

cheers,

Their roast would probably spoil me - I will try theirs when I am closer to the end of my stash - blissful ignorance till I am down to my last 3 - 4 lbs sounds about right. :D

I had a pot from this jar tonight - looks like I did get them a bit darker than I wanted because, as jammin mentions, these beans go chocolaty if roasted too long and the taste of the coffee was dominated by chocolate. Back to work tomorrow morning to see if I can get it right.

I notice the swelled edges of the creases of these beans and note that on my Behmoor, by the time I get the convex curved and swelled edge, I am usually quite a bit darker and already oily. This is with many minor tweaks, either a lighter load, a pre-heat, no preheat, different program levels, you name it...

Unfortunately, precisely why I gave up on my Behmor, I tried every trick in the book, but I surmised the radiant heat from those elements was sabotaging what I was trying to accomplish (ie: a well finished light roast)
