Dull taste can happen at any roast level. It could be the coffee, but sometimes it's because the roast finish from 1st crack start to the end of roast was too slow. You should try finishing more quickly by slightly increasing the amount your roast.

I'm just now tasting the roast I made trying but failing to get yellow beans by temperature control, not expecting much, but it's surprisingly good. This is fun.
