Does 1st crack confirm proper drying phase? - Page 2

But, it is true, is it not that certain beans are notorious for their quiet 1st crack? My experience in an RK drum is that certain Sumatras and Maui Mocha especially are quiet. I don't have a way to read the bean temperature, but I can see the temperature in the grill rise, which I assume is the beans becoming exothermic. That, combined with a few little cracks, increased smoke and time are the only indications I have on these beans that I have had 1st crack. The roasts taste good to me.
