DIY Roaster Photos

Postby Crossman on Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:04 am

Looking for really interesting comments and logs, the photos are quite useful.
Just wondering if many have considered making their own roaster.

Please add photos of your roaster and results if possible. (I might steal some of your zany/effective ideas)

For the past 2 years Ive been roasting with simple hand powered roasters that I made like this one. It cost me $15Image

Its a wee bit embarrassing but hey I'm no engineer, and it works and I really love coffee and I really have no money. But my wife says the roast smells good, and I think its "okay".
There are LOTS more mods that I would like to do, its not the best by ANY means but it works.

This was a Colombian roast, 15mins, 3mins between 1st and 2nd pop, and 30 sec into 2nd pop before finishing to cool with a fan outside.

I built and developed a great home coffee roaster its called a KKTO

Built specifically to
1) Be a cleaner roasting system where the chaff is collected inside the roaster
2) The KKTO's parts make one working unit on a small footprint
3) Minimize heat loss and maximize available heat to roast large batches - 300 grams to 700 grams
4) Is WAF friendly (Wife Approval Factor)
5) Safe 12 volt motor for bean agitation
6) Turbo oven heat source

The first DIY roaster looks like this

Then it progressed to the latest version

The first roaster is still in use and has done about 200 roasts
The new version has over 500 roasts

Here is a photo of the most recent roast from last week

DIY can be made about $200 for the 1st original model
But that depends on how well one sources the parts

If you want to build one here is the slide show/pictorial plan link

Paul, this looks really interesting and results look nice, but your web site koffeekosmo.com.au is just horrible, inexcusably bad. Shame on you. If you think you will be selling anything with such web site you must be crazy.
