Describe your method of mixing your roasted blend

Postby seattleguy on Thu May 06, 2010 3:37 pm

Typically, some preblend their selection of un-roasted green beans prior to roasting, but some prefer to pre-roast each bean separately for optimal roast results. I prefer to roast each bean individually.

I realize there are many ways to do this and doesn't require rocket science, but just wondering what you method you use to help achieve a very optimal way to mix the beans after you are done roasting.

I just mix all the freshly roasted beans in the coriander and agitate by hand until I feel they are all blended. I then transfer the beans into a Fido canning jar and also agitate a second time.

Thanks!

Simply a bowl and spoon. Sometimes I will leave the components in separate bags and weigh and blend to desire of the moment.

When blending before roasting, do it a week or more ahead. That way, the moisture equalizes and the beans roast more evenly.

As a lot of my blends are ad-hoc, I'll blend them right before I pull the shot, in the tray of the scale.

I have done one or two pre-roast blends, I'll have to marry the beans in a jar a week ahead now to take advantage of Jim's advice.

I blend after roasting
I roast a few different beans
Degassing beans is also very crucial and not mentioned enough as day by day the flavour profile changes

At first drink the coffees as a Single Origins & think Hmm I wonder how that will taste if I add this to it
