Hi

I got me this moisture reader from Amazon

It doesn't work out of the box. The reason being is that the contacts are too far apart to read moisture in coffee beans. But since the tool has four testing pins, I decided to dedicate two of those for reading moisture in beans. The two left pins are electrically connected. So are the ones on the right. I unsoldered two of the pins (one from each side) and I connected instead strong spring-loaded testing clips. I sharpened the tips of the clips so that they penetrate the inside of the beans with the force of the springs.

It works 80%. That means that I either get a reading that doesn't makes much sense (20% of the time) or I get a good reading (80%). If I get a bad reading and then move a little the test clips, I get a good reading. I was surprised to find out that many beans stored in plastic bags had 11% moisture (ideal). While beans stored in paper bags had a higher 13% moisture.

Conclusion. It works but need hands-on modification (~ 10 minutes). It is a cheap way to play and the tool can still be used for other things.

Cheers
