Versalab M3 grind adjustment set screw

Postby cannonfodder on Mon Aug 22, 2011 2:43 pm

I don't normally post questions like this to the forum but does anyone know what the stud size and thread pitch is on the grind adjustment locking nut for a Versalab grinder? I am making a replacement knob and have all the measurements with the exception of that one. Looks like it may be a M8 but I need positive confirmation before fix a stud into a hunk of ironwood burl.

Pop by the local ironmonger. They usually have a couple of devices for checking Metric and Imperial bolts. That way you're certain.

If I had the screw, I could measure it. Unfortunately the grinder is in Hong Kong and I am in Philly USA.

Have you asked Versalab?
Sometimes business can be very helpful and like it if people show interest in their products. It's not a hard question and it's a small business, so you'll probably get an answer.
Asking Harman for data on the drivers ELAC made in the seventies for the IMF Studio Monitor is probably a long shot <== just FYI, Harman has great customer relations service.

M10x1.5 Just checked it at Lowe's. A photo of the finished product? I'd probably want one.

Dave, please check with Versalab. The grind adjustment locking stud on my Versalab grinder (serial number 001) is 3/8" x 16. Maybe the spec has changed over time, but that would be surprising...which brings up a Versalab story:

When I met John Bicht (Versalab designer) at the SCAA show I asked him what the thread pitch was on the big brass burr holder. He said, "1/32." I said, "Oh, you don't use metric like the other espresso grinders?" He said, "F^ck metric."

For the record, I got an email back from Versalab. The locking screw stud is a 3/8 16 thread.
