I tried one of these. Nice enough: aluminium is a little soft - marks easily.

I'd be much happier if it was machined out of a better material. I didn't care for the internal bracing.

I agree - the first thing I did was oil the wood handle.

One thumb up. :|

Hi all,
First post here.
Regarding the material of the Helor 101. I too was after something tougher when I was shopping for a portable grinder.
A stainless steel version used to be availible but was later discontinued due to low demand I guess

Aluminium is the optimum compromise here for me and I wouldn't go any other way. Brass, stainless steel would be too heavy (easily make it twice the weight). The other material choices will likely be too expensive. But maybe Helor can provide a different finishing option.

It sure would be more of a luxury than necessity, but machining difficulties and cost aside, I wonder if it would ever be possible to see a titanium version of a precision grinder that is at least on par with if not better than the Helor 101.

What didn't you care for with the internal bracing?

The anodized aluminum of my Feldgrind is beautiful to look at and has proven pretty tough so far.

The aluminium quality and the finish is first rate on mine. Not a mark on it and it has been used a lot.

The finish on mine is beautiful, but it clearly scuffs and dings a lot more easily than any version of the Feldgrind I've owned, for example.
