If it's the outer burr key that rattles, yes it should quite obvious by shaking the grinder.

The link is to a recording of the sound I'm getting. This was recorded with no coffee in the grinder and the bottom chamber off. What had me thinking it was the spring was that there's a certain tension in the sound that had me thinking that the tension in the spring was the origin. But the notion that the sound could be the "burr stopper" rattling is more than plausible. As mentioned, though, it doesn't rattle at all if I shake the grinder. I can always shim the burr stopper so that it can't move anymore to see what happens.

I should mention that I'd been taking usage of the word "key" to reference what Helor identifies as the "burr stopper" on their website. But people might mean the three pronged knob that is used to adjust the grind setting. I'm certainly not getting any rattle there. I'm fairly confident that it's either the burr stopper or the spring.

That does not sound good... are you sure it is not a bad/broken bearing?

Not at all what I'm hearing. I think most of us hear the little shoe that fits in the small tic tac holder at times. Something on yours is catching when it rotation.

I'm going to guess bearing also. Take it apart and check both bearings. they should be ceramic so it's OK to rinse them out with soap and water and then see if one feels funny.

Here, take a look. The noise you hear at first and when I switch directions, is the wooden ball play between the washers. Again, my guess is that one of the bearings in your grinder is damaged. Could be just one of the roller/ball that is chipped.
And a few photos

Thanks for the video and photos, Jaime. Mine used to be as silent as yours is. The bearings look fine to my eye. When I put my finger through each bearing and rotate it so that the thin inner ring sticks to my finger and the outer mass rotates against it, both make just a little bit of a grinding noise. It's not remotely as loud as it is when the grinder is assembled. It's audible, but barely. But I'm inclined to think that, as suggested, that's where the noise is, not in the spring or the burr stopper.

Bearings should be almost silent, grinding sounds bad. I forget how they are sealed so is it possible coffee got into them?

I just discovered that it's pretty clear that it's one of the bearings making the noise, though. That rotation on my finger is smooth on the good one and rough on the bad one. Maybe something is broken in there or fines did sneak in.

Any thoughts as to whether a sealed bearing along the lines of what I can get on Amazon and referenced in another recent topic are food grade and safe to use in this application?

No issues so far with internal grease leaking out?

I was looking at other alternatives. Something like a hybrid (sealed stainless/ceramic) bearing to have as a spare. I do not want to know what is like to have a broken bearing and not have a replacement handy...

I was thinking about these. Vendor has the option of no grease... Stainless with Ceramic...
