Tuning a KYM hand grinder

Postby bigredted on Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:55 pm

Can anyone point me to any info on refurbishing/tuning a KYM grinder? I just received two of them and would like to give the assemblies an 'overhaul' to provide best performance.

I am interested in advice regarding the disassembly/reassembly of the mechanicals moreso than the wood.
What's the best approach to taking them apart, clean/tighten the mechanicals/burrs and especially re-assemble for best performance?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ted.

* I have 2 'new' KYMs. One is very squeaky, the turning shaft also has some play; both of their grind adjusters are extremely stiff.
