Trouble with broken chute on Rancilio Rocky

Postby canyncarvr on Tue Nov 02, 2010 2:21 pm

My Rocky grinder came out of the box with a broken output chute. The vendor sent a replacement.

I cannot compare the replacement piece to the chute on another Rocky..but it certainly is peculiar.

This chute was made from two pieces, apparently. The bottom of the chute is a separate piece from the rounded upper portion. The two pieces have been glued together with the joint fit exceedingly poor. I can easily stick a thumbnail in the crack of the joint at the flange.

I can't imagine this is 'normal'..but then, neither can I imagine anyone would go to the trouble to 'fix' the goober I'm looking at?

Is the Rocky chute a two piece affair? Those two pieces are glued together with gaps in the joints, the flange 'finished' with what looks to have been by an angle grinder fitted with a double-ought disc held by a one-armed person?

Or..am I just special?

Thanks!

The Rocky chute is only supposed to be one piece. There is also a rubber gasket that fits between the chute and machine. My chute was one piece of blue tinted plastic. I would contact the vendor and ask for another replacement.

I have contacted both the vendor and Rancilio. I have received no response from either.

The two chutes I have are similar in that each is an assembly of TWO pieces. Neither is a SINGLE piece of plastic.

The point is not that the output chute is junk because it is made of two pieces of glued-together plastic. It's the quality of workmanship..the fit and finish that is the issue.

I've had $75 grinders that were mostly plastic..and the build quality was hugely superior to the Rancilio Rocky that sold at 5X that price.

It's sad.

My two chutes were also two separate pieces. I think this is normal. The back piece broke off and I ordered a new one, which looked the same as the first (two separate pieces glued together). They crack apart easily. I don't think it will affect the distribution though. I've upgraded to a Macap M4 stepless with a doser, since then anyway. A lot less clumping and finer adjustment than the Rocky.
